USB Host Diagnostics is a valuable tool for determining the USB host capabilities of your Android device.

USB host is a powerful feature found in recent Android smartphones and tablets. However, it can be unreliable on many firmware versions, both stock and custom.

For instance, the Galaxy Nexus initially claimed to support USB host but didn't actually function correctly until the Android 4.0.2 update. This inconsistency caused various applications to break.

This is just one example of many instances where OEMs falsely advertise USB host support, leaving users disappointed when this feature doesn't work as expected. It seems that Google and OEMs don't thoroughly test USB host support before releasing new firmwares and devices.

Therefore, USB Host Diagnostics was developed to address this issue by allowing users to test their device's USB host capabilities independently. Additionally, with user consent, the app can submit results to create a comprehensive database of devices and firmwares with confirmed USB host support.

This tool is also useful for firmware porting purposes.

Requirements:

• Android 2.3.1 or newer
• (Optional) Root access
• USB OTG cable (unless your device has a full-size USB port)
• USB memory stick or any other USB device for connection testing
